Winding to Windsor

Sunday 30 October 2022

The castle of all castles took my attention today.  Windsor Castle was less than 2 miles away from my hotel.  So I decided to go and see the inside of the Castle,  fort, and Palace.  It was dull though so I checked the weather and thought the afternoon looked more cheerful to walk the route back so I hopped on a bus.

I wasn't feeling very good so I hoped the fresh air would clear my lungs. After waking at 2am.and spending 20 minutes trying to think about what happens to clocks with the change in Daylight savings time.  I also got stuck on thinking about radio djs and what they say.

It's half past twelve...and then an hour later

It's half past twelve? Sigh. I was quite tired when I woke up to work with my online tapping client but after a great session I'd perked up.

The bus driver was very friendly and I got off at the stop and was very impressed with the small town of Windsor.  I walked up to the long queue but was ushered in because I'd bought my ticket online. After the airport-like security I collected an audio guide appliance and started my own tour of the castle.  I was very surprised by the amount of tourists.  This is 'off season' yet there were languages from everywhere all chattering away.

Once inside the 'living apartments' no photographs are allowed.  Probably because of a theft and security issue.  The amount of expensive artworks, furnishings and weapons are mind boggling.  Fortunately there were some chairs in every room, once I got bold like the French kids and would squeeze myself into a gap on the bench. There's a lot to see and a lot of looking up and I began to feel flueyer as the day wore on. I tried to take my time inside but eventually the crowds were thick and I hurried out. I avoided the Cafe because it had gotten rather cool too but  the fresh air did perk me up. After the obligatory pee in the Palace bathroom I was ready to go find lunch.

The old town with it's cobblestone streets were busy and I really felt like having a chicken curry. Italian and fish shops seemed to be more common and after trying a couple of the pubs I ended up at the Wetherspoons knowing that they do a chicken curry. It was also three floors high so there were enough empty tables. The food arrived and it was yummy.  I haven't been eating that great the past week and I really wanted a hot meal. I felt much better after lunch so walked along the Thames River again. Was contemplating my walk back to the hotel when the heavens opened and told me 'no'. I got back on the bus.

By the time my bus was half way back the sun appeared again but my body was telling me it needed to lie down. After a quick stop at a supermarket I walked via the churchyard and saw some squirrels,  yey!

Also saw some bird feeders and boxes and had a brief chat with a local chap who told me that the boxes had appeared recently.

My internet in my room is like me again, sluggish and slow so loading up my photos to Facebook took over two hours and that's only the first batch! Haha but I think I will be keeping a low profile tomorrow so I can upload at my phones pace of choice.
