I woke up with a start remembering that we were to the airport for 8.30am. Then I got the message that my sister's flight had been cancelled. This was just the start of a horrible day for her of cancellations and arguments, long queues and awful sandwiches. Not the best start to her short trip to run her race but she's here now and settling in the hotel room.
My day was spent near the phone for flight updates and watching my brother struggle with an upset tummy. Around lunchtime I decided to take a walk and make the most of the dry but dull weather.
I stopped in at a local grocer and got some snacks to eat at the small dam that I was heading to. I was familiar with the road there and it was fabulous seeing the swans and their babies as well as other ducks. I sat briefly and munched on my cheeses under the watchful eye of the seagulls and realised that I was a sitting target. Plus I got cold quickly so I continued my walk through the forest-like trees. I spotted a marvelous tree that somehow depicted me so had to stop for a photo. Then I reflected on the newness of birds, plant names and smells and the unfamiliarity of me not knowing all of it. It's interesting getting reacquainted with it all and I'm enjoying learning new things.
Sister finally arrived in Glasgow around 11pm, looking exhausted and relieved. It's now almost 2am and I'm getting ready for sweet dreams.
