Virtual friends become real

Saturday 10th September 2022

I woke up early and peeped through the curtains in time to see 2 bright stars staring down at me. I was excited about the day ahead to meet up with John and his wife, my birthday twin.

You see, John has been a virtual friend for at least seven years. We were brought together by my late friend, Carrie who said we needed to connect because...

"He's Scottish!"

I don't know how she connected with him, but she was right.  We got on.

My first human meeting with him was in Inverness when we registered for the marathon. He drove through to meet me. My running wife, (who celebrates her birthday today) was flabbergasted that I was meeting with 'someone off the internet'. Everyone was impressed that he'd driven through to meet us. Today he drove through again to Inverness to bring me through to a small village near him called Fochabers.

I met his lovely wife Margaret and we talked all afternoon like old friends.  The little village I'm staying in is stunning. Small old houses,  stately buildings, pubs, ice cream shop and chippy.

The weather was stunning so naturally I had to take pictures.  Some of these old villages have fantastic energy even though most of the shops were closed,  it felt very similar to towns on the Camino,  just less cow dung, lol! I got myself a 'small fish supper' and am now watching 'chick flicks' on Netflix.
