Two things that I like which can be brought down to one word- space.
A wide view for my mind and a wide space for my hands. So today I have both, because I finally charged up my foldable keyboard after numerous charges but leaving it switched on- doh. And my fingers were flying even if it was a bit of a rant. It was a self indulgent thousand words but I added to my skeleton of my book project and it made me feel accomplished for the day.
I'd finished my series which was left 'hanging' for the next one and I was a little grumpy at this so I bounced on the rebounders that are in the house. My friends are the pioneers of rebounding in SA and have been passionately promoting them for almost 20 years.
The cat was rather docile in the afternoon, after a lively morning but hissed at me when I tried to take her out of her basket for a toilet break. But the little skinny thing can eat! She insisted on two packets of food for both breakfast and lunch and didn't like it when I rearranged her food with a spoon. Loadshedding stretched out 90 minutes longer than detailed so I ended up kick starting the koi pond motor in the dark.
I know this is not quite a travel story and more domestic details but they are different details from my own life so I feel like I'm traveling. I love looking out over the fields of the Suikerbos nature reserve and the far away hills. I ignore the houses during the day but at night they become the festive lights ( eskom permitting). There was a Piet my vrou (red chested cuckoo) calling at sunset although I didn't get to see him. The crickets chirped from early on too, I think they must be linked to the erratic Power grid timetable. The smell of braais wafted around as people made plans for cooking and it felt distinctly like summer. I've got two evenings left here and I'm enjoying the different viewpoints of my home city.
