Tunnels of love

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

Tuesday 23rd August 2022

Of course I woke up feeling better. Gratitude does that and today I have a lot to be thankful for.

Another wonderful adventure with my sisters to the town of Tynemouth.  The weather was great,  the place was buzzing, the food was good.  We walked from the carpark along the lovely river mouth path and turned up towards the Priory and Castle.  I'm fascinated by all the castles and ruins in this country. It's said that there are over 4000 castles in the UK so it's highly unlikely that I will get to see them all.

This one in Tynemouth was very impressive from the outside and the gardens are well maintained. We didn't go inside due to time and pound constraints,  plus I was hungry, lol!

We spotted a little restaurant down an  alleyway and I stuck my head in to see what it looked like. Of course when I saw the unicorn on the wall, the decision was made, even if it looked rather real! The steak sandwich was delicious and I didn't take any photos of my food- told you I was hungry.

My sister took the scenic route back although we had to go through the toll tunnel again which goes 12 meters under the Tyne River.  It was built in 1968 for cars and a new second tunnel opened in 2011. Apparently it had it's under river parts "prefabricated, floated into position, immersed into a dredged trench, and covered with rocks". I'm fascinated by the imagination behind all this creation.

We had ice cream in Seaham which was a lot quieter than the previous visit during the food festival.  I'm loving these small seaside villages with their benches, cafés, and people strolling everywhere.  But sightseeing is tiring and again I retired early to my bed, lol!
