Treasures

Thursday 31st August 2023

The last day of the month and this morning I noticed the autumn colours tickle the big tree outside my window. And then I saw the cheeky squirrel run right up to the house. The sun was up and the clouds were stunning, a perfect morning to be out bright and early.

It's interesting to see how different the faces of the workers were compared to the train passengers on a later daily train. I can't say I blame them. I love seeing a city come to life. The energy is filled with promise and purpose and people walk with intention to their known destination. I knew where I was heading so I took the route past the Museum of Modern Art, which is still being cleared of the Banksy Exhibition. I'm still in awe that I got to see it. Plus the Duke of Wellington was reported to have a new cone so I had to see for myself. The sun was sitting in a perfect spot for a morning shot and I just felt so happy.

My train ride to Helensburgh was on the other side of the river Clyde and I'd forgotten how pretty it is. My virtual friend became a 'real' friend instantly and I was so glad to have met her. She's similar to me in many ways, being 6th out of 7 children, Scots born and South African lived. I was so excited that friends come to life and dreams come true.

We walked through the lovely town up to The Hill House which was designed by Charles Rennie MacKintosh for his wealthy friends, the Blackie family. We went in minutes before a large tour group and I was delighted to see all the designs and furniture, although I was more interested in hearing my friend's life story.

I'm enjoying meeting new people and recalling who I am and what I'm about. It's always useful to hear the self assessment which can actually change in time. We had refreshments in the tea room and I was thoroughly treasured by Rona and she bought me a lovely scarf too. I tried to resist but she was having none of it.

I climbed back on my train with a full heart and half a train ticket because I'd forgotten to buy a return ticket in my excitement at 6am this morning. I was a bit embarrassed but the conductor was fine and we chatted about phones. My sister in law had made yummy dinner to come back to. I'm truly feeling so fortunate.
