A busy, fascinating day. From Scottish breakfast to extremely helpful ladies at the library, sunshine on the streets, heron in the Tweed, skit on the shore, climb up to the castle, skipping through the storm, tie tapping to the Ladyboys from Bangkok...
My research wasn't really furthered much on the Johannesburg named HB Marshall but I was amazed at how helpful the museum and library staff were. I spent a good hour reading up on Peebles in the 19th century which gave me insight to how life was then. Again, I was filled with gratitude to be born in the 21st century.
I walked along the river to find the Neidpath Castle which was preparing for a wedding tomorrow but the glimpses that I got of it were stunning and I was so glad that I managed the very steep climb and overcame my shyness and actually walked in the gate! I forget that people here are extremely friendly and welcoming.
The skies were full of contrast, sunshine and wispy clouds gave way to thick stormy clouds and there was thunder again too. Fortunately my traipsing only had me experience a light shower and not the heavy afternoon cloudburst.
My hotel is next to a theater converted from a church and there was an early showing of the Ladyboys. I decided at the last minute to dash over to the show. I was surprised to see a queue outside in the rain. However it moved quickly and the next thing I could feel myself grinning and bobbing along to the music while the dancers entertained us all.
Just to end the surprises of my day, my nephew's Scottish Goldmine, in Tyndrum was on BBC Scotland which gave me a background as to his job on the mine. All this, over my two days in the Scottish Borders when Britain got another female Prime Minister.
