Today was a strange day of very little practical work but lots of imagining my next life-chapter. I'm scouring the Airbnbs for a place within my budget and I can get quite obsessive about this kind of internet searching. When I was planning our New York accommodation back in 2012, I spent hundreds of hours searching for the 'right' place. Of course it satisfies some of my curiosity because it shows me how some people live.
The place I had my eye on, was taken off the Airbnb site because of the new lockdown rules so I am not quite able to book and confirm at the moment anyway.
I had a flash of staying on a yacht in the Marina and wondered if there was a place online to look but I caught myself before I pressed 'enter' and got some focus back.
I had to drive to the international airport in the city to collect someone and I used his huge car which is waaaaay more powerful than my smartie. With lockdown level 4 the area around the airport was incredibly quiet and enter the building on on the top level and leave on the bottom level. So I was moved along from waiting outside the top level locked doors.
Then my adventure of being an uber driver began. I circled round all in all 5 times, getting stopped by the cops once to check on my license and I tried the extortionately expensive pick-up parking twice but left during the first free 20 minutes period. My Scots blood just wouldn't let me pay R30 for 21 minutes nor R60 for 41 minutes.
I was under the impression that non passengers weren't allowed in the building so that's why I didn't park in the main parking. There was more people around the terminals than a month ago and for a brief moment I got a glimpse of the excitement of unglamorous air travel.
But for now, it's local is lekker.
