Transport back and in time

Tuesday 29th August 2023

I decided to visit the Transport museum in Glasgow today as my train's destination from Irvine was Glasgow Central Station. This Station always fills me with excitement. I vaguely remember the first (final) departure in 1971 when our large family were heading down to London on route to Sunny South Africa for a new start. That goodbye was sad for all of us, and we had little idea of what we were travelling to.

The next goodbye was in 1981 after I'd visited my gran and other relatives with my folks and younger sister. I was a teenager full of New Romantic music nostalgia and grumpiness of having to return to my 'boring' life in the dry, industrial town of Vereeniging.

I returned as a 20 year old, eager to catch up my missing music years and Central Station always seemed to welcome me back in a cheerful way. I was reminded of that today again.

The Transport museum is amazing, with it's free entry and great displays of all sorts of vehicles and history lessons. I also enjoyed a seat to drink my water while someone played the piano, really well, while I stared at the motorcycle wall in awe.

There's a Tall Ship parked up beside the museum which was also impressive. The entrance fee has fallen away so I walked cautiously on the narrow steps and was thankful that my recent cruise wasn't on one of these big crafts. It's a great museum and has been restored really well and I'm so glad I could experience it.

In between the subway station and my bus ride back to my brother's place, I quickly walked down the road to snap pictures of some buildings. Much to my surprise, I found a treasure trove of history and a very passionate guide who told me all about the Govan Stones and summed up Scottish history. You can read the more accurate account here.

Almost two hours later I walked away with terrible aching legs and feet, but a full heart and brain trying to absorb everything I'd just been shown. My leg pain is strange, nothing like running pain, nor muscular but almost like a flu ache but in my legs. Very strange and annoying. My own tapping therapy didn't help clear it either. But my anti-inflammatory tablet seems to have helped, so I'll survive. I plan on having an easy day tomorrow and give them some rest.
