I was delighted to have only made one trip to the bathroom in the night so when 7am came around I was ready for the day! We were on the move by 9am.
Firstly a bus to the station. Figuring out which direction, then we both realised we were on the correct side of the street but still looked the wrong way for the bus, haha. The busses were very scruffy compared to the Paisley ones, no phone chargers, nor padded seats. The driver drove passionately, so we were holding on rather tightly.
The next thing was trying to decipher the train departure board at the main station, then finding the platform was rather fun. We jumped on the train, only to be told something very Italian by a perplexed older gentleman, which meant we were on the wrong train. After some gesturing we walked a rather long way to find the correct train and settled down comfortably into our six hour trip to Venezia (Venice).
The toilets had the seat on a very strong spring into the 'up' position which felt rather weird to get 'slapped' on the butt while getting off the throne haha! The first toilet door didn't lock either so there was some unplanned stretching going on too. But the compartment chairs were comfortable and there was power points at the tables so we could charge our phones while the Italian countryside whizzed by. There was at least 100 tunnels we went through breaking the internet signal which made the youngsters lift their heads.
Our hotel is in the Mestre area of Venice while all the canals are on the island of Venice. No, I never knew this fact until my brother started talking about it last week. My geography is alarming considering I'm doing all this travelling but I'm great after I've visited a place. It's pretty residential near our hotel so we sat outside drinking lattes, on the small square, watching the dog walkers, skateboarders, prams and workers all going about their daily life. There was a very nice sunset while we walked around the area and it's so nice to see so many different shops and cafés.
Tomorrow we head to the canals and I hope the transport ticket I bought gets us around the areas easily. No voice guide this time. It's going to be all done via Google.
Buona notte 💤
