Train-ing

Monday 24th July 2023

A journey begins with a thousand steps, or in my case today, 4 train rides. The first one was admittedly only 10 minutes, but I was a little apprehensive about the 5 hours of changing trains, platforms and seats. My tummy was gurgling before I left my friend's flat but I think it was my mind more than matter.

Once I started the trip, the platform changes were easy, and with the smart phone, it makes all of it far more doable.  The app tells the platform number, the times, the stops and I never felt nervous at all. The trains were busy, due to school holidays but I always managed to find a seat.

I also played my games most of the journey, so time passed quickly.  The few times I did look up,  I saw lovely farms, with cows and sheep grazing and lazing. A part of me scolded the game playing me instead of watching the scenery but the teenager won.

My niece met me at the station in her brand new car, which is stunning.  I still get excited about a new car smell so it was lovely to get a ride to her mum's.  I was fed yummy cottage pie, and then rhubarb crumble.  I'm so spoiled.  Now lying in 'my bed' thinking back to 2 short months back when I was last here and how far away that feels.  Time is speeding past, much like today's trains.
