Well the tour was a success. In spite of really heavy rains before I left home but I was ready. My wellington boots and rain Mac would be covered with my new umbrella so I felt ready to face the elements. There was a light drizzle while driving but by the time I arrived in the center it had stopped.
I was nice and early but there was a communication problem with the parking area so I moved my car back into the street and then back in the parkade again. The group of 12 attendees were very patient and we were off. I received a lovely compliment from two ladies who said they booked purely because they'd seen that our names as tour guides. The tour covered 4km in distance and I only needed to put my umbrella up once for a light drizzle which didn't last long and I was almost disappointed.
We ended off at the stunning Rand Club where we had a drink and scones. It's great seeing so much interest in the city and we saw at least 3 other tours taking place.
I feel rather free without the tour looming over me. For 3 months it's been on my radar and it covered many miles including Peeblesshire and Edinburgh and friendly council workers and helpful librarians. There are more tours on the horizon but that's another days exploration. For now, I have to do another first aid course hopefully before the end of the year. Once I'm registered with the 'proper channels' I will be able to do my own personal tours (in Johannesburg only at this stage) which I would be able to charge for. The Johannesburg Heritage tours are on a voluntary basis and it's great experience.
Hopefully soon, the rain will ease and it might begin to feel more like summer.
