February is a month of birthdays for me. Today I had lunch with a dear friend who celebrated a big one. We went to a nearby mall that has a view of Jhb North and the main road. While I was waiting and gazing at the view, I realised it's the vast space that opens my mind. The view doesn't necessarily have to be pretty to make an impression but simply wide.
The afternoon hours went quickly by and it was a murky sunset as I drove home with thick clouds, making me put on my headlights. It still felt humid though.
Fortunately we had power for 3 hours to charge up the inverter and cool down the fridge a little and I'm now sitting in the dark again. The power went off at 5am so most of the day was current- free. I think the unpredictability of these break downs are what get to me. When we have a schedule it's easier to plan and anticipate switching everything off just before the planned outage. Now, with the breakdowns, we have to fumble around feeling light switches and TV buttons to prevent a midnight wake up with lights and noise haha.
There's a local saying that 'Africa is not for sissies', meaning that you have to be tough to live here and right now, I agree.
P.S. I'm surprised my photos loaded, haha
