Temporary nesting

Updated: Jul 15, 2022

Thursday 14th July 2022

I was up early and headed out to the golf course while the world was still quiet. It was the first day of official play today so the coverage started very early. I walked quietly on the familiar path and wondered about the students who had walked there before me. Had Prince William or his now wife, Kate, walked this way to classes?

I found a shorter way to the main entrance of the course where the public were queueing up before 6am. I took some pictures of the course and marveled at how harsh the plants are. The small thorns, the thorny ivy and the rough hedges showing me how sturdy they have to be to survive in the harsh climate. There was a tiny bird singing on top of one of the hedges just to add some gentle contrast. Some swallows tried to fly in the back of my truck while I was standing in it. I wondered how they knew how to swoop through the open door to check the roll up hideaway behind it. But the temporary nest would be no use to the graceful creatures so I had to prevent them from making themselves too familiar.

It stayed cold today and I wore my gloves for most of the day. Midsummer in Scotland, lol. The weekend promises to be warmer.  I was relieved of my shift around 5 and found myself in my hostel room before 7. I dozed off while trying to watch some series now on my phone, and then I realised that I hadn't written here yet. But now it's done, I can sleep properly until 4am as I have to be in work by 5am tomorrow.
