Swimming Sunday

4th December 2022

My big news of today is that I had my first swim of the season.  Yes, the weather was that perfect.  Sorry for the Northern Hemisphere readers but my goal of following the summer felt like it came true.

I woke early but there was only silence from my sister's room so I turned over and went back to my crazy dreams of Korea- courtesy of my current Netflix series.  It was close to 8am by the time I set out for my run so I stuck to the shady side of the quiet roads. I'm hoping to just keep plodding away at this 5km distance until I can do it with little or no walking. I'm hoping it's not going to take too long for that to happen, so consistency is my key.

After walking Molly in my cool down time, sister returned from her run and we jumped in her car to go to the car wash and get a breakfast.  Neither of us had formal plans which was rather nice for a change and that's the reason for my swim. I got hotter and hotter so decided that the slightly green swimming pool would be much warmer than the English Channel and Loch Lomond for my dip. Fortunately I could still squeeze into my swimsuit and my shoulders were covered from the direct sun.

It takes me ages to dip my head under so after 15 minutes of inching my way up to my ribs, I dived under.  It caught my breath initially but it was a lovely temperature and I floated about clearing leaves and berries from the surface and throwing the ball for Molly.

The neighbours started a braai so that's as close to it as I got and ended making chicken fillets for supper.  Summer in Jozi, is sizzling.
