Sunny sepia Sunday

Sunday 22nd October 2023

Today was an extended family day which I love. But my morning started off really bright and sunny which always makes me want to get out of bed. I'd planned to meet my cousin for brunch so decided to check out of my hotel early and walk there which turned out to be the best idea.

The early morning streets are always interesting fo me because it shows the 'behind the scenes' of the hospitality industry, the clean up after the Saturday revelery and runners. Being a Sunday, it also meant that church doors were open, so I peeped in a couple and admired the stained glass windows.

My route took me past a Hindu temple too but it had a service happening so I didn't venture inside. The buildings look lovely in the sunshine and walking through the Kelvingrove Gardens had the university towers tease me over the stunning autumn leaves. Runners and dog walkers were all smiles in the lovely weather, after some rather bleak days and the dogs seemed to love it too.

I had a Scottish breakfast with my cousin and her boyfriend, in a lovely Cafe and I relish hearing stories about my extended family and the early days that I missed while living so far away. She suggested we drive by my old house and the large sepia memories come flooding back. I remembered falling on the 'steep' downhill and scraping my knee in my last summer as a 5 year old. I swear I almost heard the sounds of my siblings and friends playing in the wide streets in the days when nobody could afford cars. I looked up at the modern windows and caught a 'glimpse' of our bare living room with the kitchen off the side and wondered how different it must look now. Everything now looks much smaller and almost cleaner. 52 years is a long time ago...

Late afternoon, I had my nephew collect me for a coffee and a catch up. My brother and family arrived back from their Spanish holiday and heard their stories of villas in the mountains. I love having such a big, animated family!
