For someone who is leaving tomorrow, there's been absolutely no packing done. I got quite adept at packing up quickly in the UK so I'm assuming it's going to be the same tomorrow.
Except....
I have far more 'stuff' here than I carried in my backpack. Haha. I've had a large selection of clothes and a cupboard in which to pack them so it's felt like I'm 'settled' here for now. Plus, I have my car to carry the stuff instead of climbing stairs at a train station. It's amazing how quickly my body resumes old habits in particular places. But even with the range of goods, I do tend to stick with the same clothes ( weather depending).
My biggest thing I need to 'streamline' when I return to the UK in May, is my medicinal/bathroom bags. Vitamins are heavy, and I have so many items that I haven't touched in my 18 months of nomadic life, but hold onto them for 'in case'. I've been monitoring the daily use and yes, I even threw some old stuff away, gasp!
The reason for heading one hour drive east to Heidelberg tomorrow, is to continue my research on HB Marshall. The Scotsman who has been the focus of my Scots in SA (AfriScot) project. While researching him, I've learned so much about Johannesburg and those early years of the gold rush town. He lived for 5 years in Heidelberg and two of his children are buried there. I wasn't aware of all of this when I stopped over on my return from my Durban stint in 2021. But I'm excited about going back to the town on the edge of the Province.
Beep, beep!
