Sunday 6 March 2022
I'm writing this midday instead of evening because I am staying over with my friend who has lived in Parys for over three years. My writing is almost like a bedtime ritual and a signal for my brain to shut down. However afternoons tend to be a time of chill anyway, except now I can't kick my takkies off in my friend's restaurant ( or can I?)
I dreamed of being an air stewardess and having to pack a whole lot if stuff before a night flight. Then I was reminded that Katryn is an 'air hostess' lol. I ended up doing a video at a bridge thinking it would be quiet because it was Sunday morning. As I moved towards the suspension bridge suddenly everyone arrived and there's me all blue haired and dressed up.
Being interested in buildings I wish I could point my phone at a building, bridge or structure and all the details would pop up. Sometimes the information on the net hasn't been updated and I get impatient not knowing ( although I forget it soon afterwards)
Parys is a lekker dorp, with many restaurants and coffee shops. One blog said over 20 restaurants but I think that was before lockdown and the casualties of being a small business in a closed down world. I drove around for a while looking for some buildings I'd seen online and was very pleased to find the art deco style town hall snd the old Anglican church. The roads were some of the worst I have seen on my trip. Huge holes and stretches of tar long gone into the river, never to return. The main road is in great condition and on weekends the traffic is very busy with people coming from all directions for a lekker lunch and a shop.
There are lots of different activities too, with trails and water sports. I even saw two couples paddling just after the 'rapids' but I missed them with my camera. I chatted with a few local shop owners and it seems like life returning to the town after many months of uncertainty and it's truly worth a visit.
