I woke early this morning again asking myself two questions. Where am I? What day is it? And then I adjust the curtains to check the dawn. It was light and pink so I knew it must ve early. I'd hoped to have received a message from the local tour guide who does ghost and history tours but I had another plan in place just in .
I packed my bags into the car and made my way to church street. So many stunning buildings and lots of art shops unfortunately closed. I really need to plan the small dorpies better and visit weekdays. Prince Albert may need a long stay sometime down the line though because there seems to be a lot of nice things to do and hikes in the hills nearby. The drive to Oudsthoorn was lovely and very little traffic. The valley looked green and cheerful and it was interesting seeing the landscape around. On the horizon there was a koppie Hill Bigger hills Mountains Shadows.
I was advised to stop in the historical village of Klaarstroom and I timed it perfectly for a Boer size lunch of bobotie. Of course there were some resident cats occupying the comfy seats. The small church had a graveyard next to it where I recognised some military crosses.
I set off to Oudsthoorn through the Meiringspoort pass again a bit more knowledgeable about it's construction and with admiration of what the early pioneers had to go through. I chatted to a lady recently about life nowadays and she said she felt like she's born 100 years too late. I disagreed, I loved the ease of modern life with my zooty Isuzu MU-X instead of coaxing oxen to pull a wooden wagon. I pulled up at my beautiful modern apartment in the Karoo Retreat resort in Oudsthoorn and took advantage of being able to swim in the Salt pool and chat with some friends via the internet.
I was fortunate to recognise the shift in outside light so caught the most magnificent sunset to end off a splendid day.
Again feeling huge gratitude for my life right now and for all the support received both near and far.
