I woke up with the evening loadshedding and then the power went off again at 6.30am until 3pm. It was a strange morning in that I took Molly for a walk but didn't run afterwards. I felt grumpy initially but it waned as the day got brighter. ( it was 32°C so it was rather bright.)
Sister had been forward thinking and booked an appointment at the hairdresser, whereas I hadn't. I was way overdue for a visit but with my car hassles and other things popping up, I realised that I could accompany the planner and my stylist would squeeze me in ( I did ask, but she's great like that). We got to Melville in time to grab a lunch which was yummy and made our way to the salon.
After no electricity in the salon for 3 days, my stylist arrived at work this morning to discover that there was power but no water! She had to jump into emergency mode with drums and buckets and heating the water up on a gas stove for her clients hairwash... I take my hat off to her and every small business owner that need to be quick witted enough to work around the current issues in South Africa. I'm amazed and felt rather humbled by my own moans of 'no internet'.
As I sat in front of the mirror, trying desperately hard not to judge myself too harshly, my stylist, Melissa, asked what I want doing. Initially I said, 'surprise me' but then I remembered that I want the ease of a pony tail to run with. She then decided to give me a 'money shot' of blonde with a full copper head. Sounds ominous but I love experimenting with my hair. This wasn't always the case, but now I know it grows out/back and if it doesn't, I have a range of plastic wigs, lol!
Melissa, then proceeded to describe what she thought of us sisters. She said that I seem to be the confident one and have no trouble standing up for myself, and my sister the soft one. We laughed. As I'm usually the gentle one. She also thought that Debbie would be more adventurous with her hair than she is, but she isn't. It's interesting hearing what people think and how, after 8 years of sitting in her salon chair, she has such a different idea of us both.
The hours went by quickly as clients came and went, and after 3 hours we were finished. The late afternoon was still sizzling hot as we stopped to get some groceries. Fortunately the power was on when we got back to the house and it was rather pleasant to have the TV on in the background instead of the battery backup lights, lol. Long may it last!
