Stamps and shows

Tuesday 12th September 2023

Today we ran some errands first thing by going to the Post Office in the Hartlepool town mall. I'm amazed at seeing Christmas cards in stores and not only because of the timing but because I'm still not quite used to a functioning postal service. It was a matter of sorting out birthdays for all the 'Christmas babies' and figuring out whose cards we post and who gets personal delivery. We stopped by at a small 'granny cafe' to write out some of the cards and had some fruit scones.

British food can be quite different, even though my mum stuck to the same rather bland food routine while I was growing up. But I admit to enjoying fruit scones and raisin bread, and today the scones were a little stale which was disappointing. But the cards got sorted and all other errands done.

We waited for one of our long time family friends to arrive in from London for a couple of nights. It was one of those great catch ups and it feels like the extended family ties are refreshed once more.

I also discovered that our Mike Oldefield's show tomorrow night isn't actually him!!!! Gasp, it is a collaborator who has worked with him and is presenting the 50 year anniversary show. Big sister had read the fine print. I'd stopped reading after 'Tubular Bells-live'. Fortunately I found out today, as I would be more annoyed going in tomorrow and discovering my faux pas. But nevertheless, we leave for York at midday and will stay overnight. I'm still looking forward to it though, so my blog tomorrow, will be either very early or very late.
