Friday 4th November 2022.
After waking up to thunder and lightning around 2.30am I struggled to get back to sleep for some time. Everything that I need to do in the next 3 weeks started trying to 'download'. I realised that I was feeling rather anxious so I tapped my fingers lightly while counting backwards a few times and the next thing it was 5am.
It was still cool and wet as I was getting ready to brunch with a friend and mentor, so I had to wear my winter clothes. My Smartie was waiting patiently for me and I wondered if I would remember how to drive. Fortunately it's a very easy car to drive with no clutch and I was zipping around in no time.
As I approached the restaurant I noticed that I automatically put my hand in my pocket to find my mask which felt strange because I haven't worn them in 6 months. The power of situation and habit just making itself felt again. My friend said he'd had a similar response because he hadn't been to that restaurant while I was away.
After a fun meal I stopped by the small shopping center for supplies. I noticed how the prices of things have shot up, much like the UK. After getting some meds for my sister I came to her place to be greeted by a very happy dog, and I laughed on noticing that she has put on as much weight as I have.
My sister got back from work to a power cut so we sat and chatted while the sun began to set. Fortunately the power returned before full darkness. My voice seemed to get quieter and squeakier as my flu has obviously struggled with airplane air-conditioning different climates. I'm hoping by tomorrow it returns as I have a practice tour walk through to do.
Lying in the bedroom, I'm hearing crickets for the first time in months. It's a real summer sound, although I'm under a duvet and a blanket. I was hoping to miss winters for a while!
Johannesburg seems to have an extra season, - the rain season now.
