Sporting Saturday

Saturday 28th October 2023

Rugby. Such a hard physical sport. I don't understand half the rules and often wonder how parents of the players can watch while their loved ones get hammered. But it's passionate and fierce and it binds a country together. I'm still stressed watching it, and particularly the World Cup final taking place in Paris. I'm not sure I'll manage to watch all of it, haha...

Today I returned to a sport that used to play weekly, which is badminton. I haven't been in a UK sports centre in decades so it was interesting going inside this one. Once I started playing I was reminded of two things. How much I enjoyed the game and how unfit I am.

My opponent was too good for me but I did manage to get a few sneaky points and I sweated up a storm.

I used to play years ago with a group of seniors who met every Wednesday morning for the social games. It was great watching 75 year old Alice play to win and would often shout 'out' before the opponents shot touched the floor. I learned a few tricks from her on how to play within my means at the net, and no, I didn't learn how to cheat, haha.

So at this stage, I still don't know who the rugby world cup title belongs to and I'm kinda scared to watch. The All Blacks are notorious for being giants in the game and game has been an exciting one.

Tomorrow Paris will return to being the city of tourists and love as the rugby circus leaves the city and everyone moves on.
