Wednesday 19th April
Waking up just before dawn is exciting. It helps being mid Autumn and the sunrise is officially at 6.25. The sky lightened around 5.45 and my eyes caught sight of the orange glow as I was turning over for some more shuteye. I also heard the cat meow outside my door so I got up quickly to take pictures and humour the cat.
I realised that a nearby Eucalyptus tree is the local Hadeda Hotel but I was too slow to record them all leaving before check out time of 6:05am. As always, I had a notion of making a short movie about the Joburg residential bird. It might still happen but this morning I needed to be out and about for a morning appointment.
This time spending it in nature with the cats and dogs has been really therapeutic. It's been forcing me to stay in the moment of now even with only three weeks left before I return to the UK. I've booked a whole lot of different appointments including a dentist, of course! I've still got some things to do a bit closer to the departure date plus try and see as many friends as I can. But the interesting thing is I don't feel rushed. Perhaps it's because I have to be patient encouraging the old bulldog down the stairs or waiting for the magic light of the sunset that didn't seem to happen tonight.
At least tonight the wifi behaved and I've sat through many episodes of horse and ranch life of Heartland on Netflix, while surfing the net. Modern life mixed with nature.
