Sizzling solstice

Friday 22nd December 2023

I was up before the sun today. So I thought I'd 'spice' up our run and go the opposite direction. I hadn't realised that the uphills would be worse this way but Rusty seemed to enjoy the variety. It was nice and cool too which tricked me into thinking that the day would be cooler. Nope.

Being up so early is great however I keep forgetting that not everyone is awake and I make the mistakes of sending jokes early and hoping that phones are on silent mode. I planned to get to the local Woolies to buy some Christmas food however I was even too early for the store. So I sat at a nearby coffee shop and had a cappuccino with fresh whipped cream. It set the tone of luxury for the day and I had the luxury of a nap in the afternoon.

I'd forgotten how hot 32°C feels, so sleeping was a good way to get through it.

By 5pm it was still hot so Rusty patiently waited until 6pm before we ventured to the dog park. It was a good decision because a new friend was there with 5 dogs and we caught up a bit while trying to keep track of the border collies balls. Rusty looked comfortable with the dogs and they all just mingled until Rusty decided he needed a sprint or 3 and chased the birds. My new friend lives across the road from where I'm staying and we had coffee at 6am earlier in the week, she's an early bird too and invited me in again. It seems strange to be having socials at 6am haha.

Fortunately it has cooled down this evening but still warm enough for the crickets to keep singing their Boney M tunes.
