Sizzling

Waking up in an art gallery trying to figure out where I am, can sometimes be a bit disorienting. But I quickly figured out what to do and that was go film in the quiet cool streets of Richmond. You can check it here if you want (apologies for the wind sound)

When I was done with my videos I couldn't get back into my accommodation. The other residents had well and truly closed the door and no amount of key twisting worked. Fortunately a big burley guest from across the way came to my rescue, me standing there in my blue wig, damsel in distress, lol.

I got out of my costume for my journey and stopped by the open door to the NG church. It seems like these huge buildings are a constant feature in every small town. This building was built by J L Leeb. The corner stone was laid in 1844, inaugurated 1847, with the pulpit designed by Anton Anreith. I always get a little disappointed by the insides of these buildings but then I am biased towards bricks, stones and mortar. Sagrada Familia in Barcelona did the same to me, tears standing outside-meh on the inside.

On arrival in Beaufort West I got a notion to change my overnight plans and head on the N12 to Barrydale to my first version of my road trip which had been paid for. I did some checking and realised that I was actually enjoying the driving, trucks and all. The extra hours drive seemed plausible so I put on some great podcasts on and smiled my way driving deeper south than intended.

The temperatures climbed steadily and the road narrowed to no shoulder at all. Fortunately there was very little traffic and in order to keep the lane corrector from pushing me back in lane, I drove with my indicator on until there was a car. I realised that I was on route via a stunning part of the world, Meiringspoort with magnificent rock formations and winding roads following the river through the high mountains. I stopped at a look out point which now has an excellent pathway up to a waterfall. The hand railing was scorching and as a lovely lady described it

"It will burn the meat right off you"

The car thermometer reached 45•C and I had to take a photo. Fortunately my car handled both the road and heat extremely well and I am very grateful to feel so safe climbing these twisting passes with a strong engine. I arrived in Barrydale at my accommodation about 3 hours before sunset and right now it's still rather hot under the fan.
