Signs and signals

Tuesday 21st June 2022

It's the day of the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere so my body woke me up especially to see the 'blue light before dawn' at 3am.  I didn't stay awake too long though. When I did wake up I was a bit stumped as to what to do with myself.

My initial reason for coming over to the UK this year, at this specific time was to support sister,  Debbie, in her 100 mile race ending in Fort William.  Unfortunately her passport renewal was too late and didn't arrive in time so that's why she didn't run and I stayed in the accommodation alone this weekend.  My focus point was this race and I didn't really have concrete plans for afterwards. So this morning's 'post event slump' was acceptable and understandable.

My brother was going to look in on his father in law who lives in a small town of Kilmarnock, so I asked him what was there. He told me about a park and a graveyard and after a quick internet search, my plan  to join him was in place.

I'm loving these tiny towns with old buildings and huge cemeteries. The retail centers are battling but the museums are free and the people are super friendly.

I went into the Dick Institute (cue my teenage giggling) and I was very impressed. A staircase, mosaic floor and a library and that was only the first level! I popped upstairs and silently squealed with delight when I saw the exhibits of John Walker.  This was his home town. The birthplace of the global brand whisky blend. I had a notion of approaching the company for sponsorship last year but I haven't plucked up the courage (yet) and here I was, standing in front of his 'blend books'. I take that as a sign.  The idea was kick started again and I am planning on getting back to my planning.

There is do much to do, see, hear, learn   eat ...
