Shiver me timbers

Saturday 16th September 2023

I woke up to a grey sky which prompted me into finalising my return flight to South Africa. Last year I'd booked my return flight early so I knew how long I had left to do things. I'd been booked to present a tour in Johannesburg in November so that gave me a reason for the date planning This year has been unusual, I presented my online tour in August so my obligations are different.

As I scrolled through the crazy prices of one way tickets, I knew I had to do something about it today, so that my 4am mind scrolling would quieten down too. I took the plunge and did it. I even booked an extra leg room seat! The relief was surprising, not so much that I'm going to South Africa but that I'd made a big decision.

I have dogs to visit, plus I'm toying with another road trip in the new year, so now I havea date fixed, I can focus my energy on different things.

The weather stayed cool with a maximum of 15°C and I realised that I might need to get some warm clothes if I'm staying until the first week of December. My sister wanted to get a friend a birthday gift so we went out in the afternoon to a local garden nursery. It was my first time in a UK nursery and it was interesting seeing the prices of plants. We stopped by the supermarket too and once again I felt a bit overwhelmed by the choice and unfamiliarity of everything. I did have a nice feel of all the furry blankets and jerseys on sale though, so my tactile need was satisfied for a short time.

Now I'm hiding under a blanket watching Ireland play Tonga in the World Cup Rugby tournament.

Autumn in the UK begins.
