Running and day dreaming

I'm a team player. Coming from a big family has taught me how to work with people but sometimes I would take the sacrifice and not realise that I could do things differently. When my younger sister started running, I always thought it must be such a lonely sport but I later learned that that was a faulty thought too. I have met hundreds of friends on the road, at a club, on a race and it is so social! Finding someone who runs the similar way is easy and as long as I'm fit, conversation flows.

Today I ran from the car garage where I dropped my sister's car off to get checked and ran back. On route I realised that a running group was about to start their run nearby, so I stopped by to say hello. I don't know everyone but I'm on their running message group and today I realised that I'm envious of their fitness and their camaraderie. I managed about 50 steps with them and parted ways but it gave me a spring in my step to have seen them.

Loadshedding kicked in at 4pm so I suggested that my sister and I go eat out. The restaurant was very quiet being both early and the first official school night so we almost had the place to ourselves. Converting the menu prices into UK pounds makes everything seem really cheap and it was fun to see a shot of Vodka for around £1.50. Not that I bought any, but we received a complimentary chocolate vodka and I wasn't driving and I don't normally drink. So drinking it, was quite a nice dessert after my steak.

I started looking at accommodation for my upcoming road trip next month. I'd forgotten how exciting it is to be planning hotels, stops and different places that I didn't know existed. I'm trying to remember how I planned my last one 2 years ago with my prize car. I think I had a loose plan and would book up to 3 days in advance. I also had the time pressure of returning the car in Johannesburg. This time I don't have any 'deadlines' which makes it both easier and complicated. Complicated because South Africa is a huge country and my lottery winnings haven't been put in my bank account yet- lol. It's still a lot of fun, seeing a town on the map and discovering that there's quirky accommodation available.

What an absolute privilege it is to be contemplating this. So I'm feeling really grateful again tonight.
