In 2014 I visited Richmond for the first time. A cameraman friend lives here and he'd agreed to film my interview with my musician-crush band éVoid. Mark showed me around a bit but I think my brain was still in a state of shock for the upcoming interview that I didn't really take it in. I returned today to stay until Friday and I'm so glad I did.
I'd contacted my new friend that I'd made while visiting the Glasgow City Chambers, in July. Fortunately she lives very nearby so we met up today. She walked me along the Thames River and pointed out the PennyFerry which crosses the river ( for £1, now) and we walked quite far to try a fancy coffee shop which was unfortunately closed. There were horses in paddocks, dogs leaping in the river, a friendly one came up to us to say hello, massive trees, squidgy paths and a stunning view from a tea room where I got a fruit scone.
We walked through the old Royal Palace, across the 'common' and through some stunning alleyways. She'd remembered seeing that there is a fish supper special on a Monday for seniors and fortunately he gave both of us the special price of £6.50. The restaurant still looks like something from the Eighties but we took our supper back to the riverbank and watched life go by as the sun set stunningly over the river.
I am so glad that I decided to return, it's a fantastic little town which I'm looking forward to exploring more over the next few days.
