Rainbows and pots of coffee

Wednesday 7th September 2022

I woke up feeling a bit cold which is unusual because most of this trip I haven't been using a blanket. The morning warmed up as I readied myself for the next leg of my journey.  My bus trip to Edinburgh.

The farm fields full of sheep gave way to housing estates as we neared the city and I was clever this time in getting off the bus close to my hostel.  Being a little over a month ago that I was here it feels familiar and I avoided the killer stairs from the station.  My pod bed feels less claustrophobic because the air is cooler and I dropped my bag off ready to meet my cousin for coffee.

The rain chucked down on my last few minutes before the restaurant but fortunately I had my rain jacket. Then the sun came out while we sat in our plastic domes, which became popular during the social distancing of lockdown.  It felt like our very own conservatory as we chatted about relatives and I learned about our shared family tree.

Again the heavens opened as we were leaving but this time we were treated a magnificent rainbow over the city. I walked back to my hostel taking so many pictures of the wet buildings and clouds, I love looking up.

Tomorrow I head more north, to Inverness for a couple of days. I'm really looking forward to exploring the city I ran towards in 2015. This time though,  it will be mostly walking.
