Rain without strain

Another dull, damp day was ahead of me but Tuesdays always start early with my weekly running podcast with my friend. I had also booked a massage for 10am so I had to get some semblance of a rhythm going. After my shower I had a flash of one of my skit characters and decided to quickly do a skit. I finished with 15 minutes spare before my massage appointment and fortunately Google maps had told me that it was 8 minutes away.

One of the benefits of hard lockdown last year was discovering that my massage friend had a permit to work. I realised that I can have really good friendships online, but I do miss physical touch. So my friend and I set up Monday massages and I can honestly say that the weekly appointments saved my sanity in a world gone sterile.

It was also one of the physical things that I would miss about Johannesburg. So I was a little apprehensive about a different massage therapist but on parking, I realised that my discounted price was because it was in a therapy school. My voucher also included a pedicure.

I have extremely ticklish feet, so I don't often have this done, even though I am a reflexologist myself. I warned the therapist about this and we had a laugh as my feet squirmed and curled as she cleaned up my runner's toenails.

The body massage was well worth it, as she managed to soothe my driving arm tension away and I totally relaxed on her bed that had me thinking that my hot flashes were back, meanwhile it was an electric blanket. Possibly the only time they get used in the Durban climate, with today's soggy cool weather.

I left the school 90 minutes later with really woolly hair but a lightness in my muscles.

A perfect solution for a rainy day.
