Rabbie and Rabbit

Updated: Jan 26, 2023

Wednesday 25th January 2023

The power kicked in last night, not long after I'd posted yesterday's blog so I  enjoyed the fan and kept my phone on flight mode to charge. I woke up this morning after dreaming of my dad and I lay listening again to the day break.

I joined Marlene's running group at 7.30am for my 5km run and they've got such a lovely group. I'm one of the slowest runners but the run is in my old neighbourhood so I know most of the distances between landmarks so was quite content to lag at the back. Afterwards, we had coffee at the local Mugg and I received a lovely Chinese New Year card, translated (loosely from my recollection) 'may your path ahead always be prosperous' which feels so appropriate.

I was then treated to a great massage from expert masseuse Lorna and afterwards I stopped at the local PicknPay to stock up on Burn's Nicht food.

Rabbie Burns was a Scottish Poet and lyricist in the 18th century.  His birthday (today) is celebrated by 'bringing out the haggis' while reciting his poems.  I managed to get some Scots sausage (square) and a tiny bit of haggis (sister doesn't like it), some IRN BRU and a Frys chocolate cream. I cooked the 'neeps and tatties' (turnip and potatoes) before we went to the running club. I only managed another 3km run but it was very pleasant. We had no power when we returned but I warmed up the food on the gas and had an attempt at making a whisky sauce.

I know,  I'm sounding domestic,  but it was for a good cause, lol. We toasted the year ahead with the IRN BRU and sat in the dark muching our food.  It was quite tasty,  I must admit.

With Rabbie and the Chinese year of the Rabbit,  I've got a good feeling about the next 12 months.  Sláinte!
