We both leapt out of bed at 4am due to the strange sound of the alarm clock. Debbie had an early flight so after a bit of a taxi confusion, we were on our way at 5am. All of this was in the lovely sunny dawn. Debbie had a trace of airport anxiety due to her horrible ordeal at Heathrow but everything went off well and took off to her destination and I had my brother fetch me from outside the airport.
I was very excited when I saw my new running shoes delivered so thought I'd try them out on a walk. I went through some of the streets being pleased at the absence of security bars and gates and had to stop myself from looking inside living room windows again. It's a British thing for me, haha.
I found the entrance to the park grounds which I was surprised by as I hadn’t realised that the access was so easy to my brother's house. I'm loving the pathways and green that shines everywhere, especially in the sunshine. The woody area had some majestic trees and I love the moss, plants, the tree roots and hearing the rustle of squirrels and birds everywhere.
At one point I heard an unusual bird sound and discovered a woodpecker pair feeding their young inside a dead tree trunk. I felt smugly chuffed that I'd spotted it and I caught myself smiling at just how beautiful everything is. The view from the top area was stunning and I stopped by for a moment at the reservoir to admire the tadpoles and nature sounds. My shoes worked perfectly and I managed to dodge the country pancakes in the one part of a the farm section.
Immediately the childhood saying
'What would you rather do?
Run a mile, jump a style or eat a country pancake?' Popped into my head.
I laughed at the memory and wondered what followed if the usual response of 'eating' was said. Was it just a loud 'ha-ha' and childish pointing? And then I realised that I would probably say now, that I would rather run a mile than jump a style.
And run I did. Probably more than a mile too. When I reached the tar road and the downhill slant, I suddenly want to run. I'm blaming the new shoes.
