After a bumpy night of tummy twirls, dreams and thinking about the taxman at 6am, I was relieved to finally get up. I'd decided to pop down to the small town and look for the street art that had been advertised on my social platforms.
I stopped by first at the Catholic Cathedral which I'd never seen inside of, despite it having strong family connections. My late sister's funeral was in here and I think I may have avoided coming in all these years because on some level I was pissed off at God- if that makes sense? But on opening the door it was exactly like I had imagined, even the smell was familiar. I was surprised by how it matched my mind's visual as I don't remember seeing any photos of the inside. I sat in the back pew and felt the air and imagined it full with all of my sister's contacts. I stepped back to October 2007 for a moment. Then I thanked the space and headed out.
I found the first mural rather quickly and I was surprised that I hadn't seen it before. But often street art is like that, it pops out when it wants to be seen . Fortunately the other murals were all fairly nearby and I snapped away taking pictures. I also stepped into one of my favourite buildings, the Russell Institute. It's a beautiful building and I was impressed with It's marble tiles in the reception hall. It was built in the 1920s and there a lovely link here if you want more details. I missed the open day on Saturday where I could have gone a full building tour, argh.
I then made my way back up to the main street to get some new trainers ( finally) I've been looking since I got here but was reluctant to carry extra shoes all over. I made it down to the bus feeling like I had a constructive day and am glad to be getting in bed a little earlier. Now all I need is to sleep through the night, what a novelty!
