The fan went silent at 5am, meaning the power went out. I sighed and turned over wondering if my sister wanted me to take her to work. She did. So I jumped into my running clothes with the intention of getting on the road on my return but it only stayed an intention and not an actuality.
The powerless remained, both literally and figuratively all day, as if I didn't know what to do with myself. I've obviously been out of practice of the loadshedding saga that South Africans are wrapped in on a daily basis because I really felt helpless. I ended up snoozing on the couch which is probably exactly what my body needed.
I read up on some Scottish history in a real paper book and promptly fell asleep again. I was surprised by my tiredness but I am quite aware of my emotional environment so I just allowed myself to rest.
I then got an urge to get some hot food so drove out to the KFC and spent a long 20 minutes in the queue listening to a radio DJ wrap up his final show. The sky was impressive too so at least I got to hear my show and see the sunset which I would have missed if the queue had moved quickly.
The power is still on holiday so the house alarm is beeping every few minutes and the neighbours generator drone is vibrating the windows. However 20 meters away the houses and complexes have lots of lights shining so we're obviously on a different power grid. Here's hoping that they find the fault in the cable and get it sorted so I can end my day with the sound of the fan, holding thumbs!
