Powerful views

Friday 18th November 2022

I had a very unusual night last night by not getting up for the loo.  I was very surprised when I woke up and it was light. Hopefully it's now going to become my new habit which used to be my old habit. All the bed hopping that I've been doing this past year should have turned me into an easy sleeper, so let the nights of great zzzz's  begin!

On waking, my friends started scurrying around to get on the road to the Drakensberg.  In the middle of this scurry was loadshedding.  I haven't experienced the regular power cuts since I'm back because after months of dreadful 4-days-without-power sessions, my sister's small area seems to be escaping the darkness now.

My housesitting has a koi pond with a rather temperamental engine which sometimes switches on once power returns but sometimes not. Some 'technical taps' are required. So I was relieved when my friends scurrying lasted until 220v returned to test the pond.

My 'client' this weekend is a rather fragile cat who has vision issues and looks rather worse for wear. Yet she eats with a fervour and is quite insistent on getting back into her basket.  She's an old dear and has a very deep meow if I don't cover her quick enough.

And then there's the view... I think a wide vista somehow opens the mind. It's different from staring out across the ocean. This wide landscape has the twinkling lights of humans living there (power company permitting) and the hills change colour throughout the day. When I get my lottery money, I'm definitely buy a house with a view. For now, I'll borrow my friend's.
