The sun was out by the time I woke up and Rusty gave me a few extra minutes of sleep. I decided to reverse the initial route to the park and I was surprised by the amount of traffic that was on the motorway alongside the park. It is amazing how quickly the world can revert back to 'ordinary' from festive.
I know the commercialism of Christmas gets criticised but I think, humans need festivals. When I walked the Spanish Camino, I saw that many small towns have festivals, and I was in Pamplona with the cheerful build up of San Fermin, or the running of the bulls. I was reminded of my youth when all the British immigrants in our small industrial town, would celebrate for the solid week off in between Christmas time. It was fun, chaotic, messy and exhausting and exciting. It seemed to help everyone deal with the harsher reality of the working year far away from 'hame'.
Some of the houses have removed their Christmas lights but there's others who still have them up, not that I have seen them in the night, because, well, it's nightime! Haha. My brain is still thinking it's around September anyway plus I like the idea of every day feeling like Christmas. Decorations or not, I always find the magic in every day.
Rusty has stayed with me tonight on the couch and I'm pleased to report that JD, the cat, appeared for a quick bite and some milk. The other cat, Chutney, is still strutting around being the boss so all is well in Modderfontein.
