The heavy rain continued it's torment of Johannesburg residents today. It was so heavy that I didn't want to chance it by going for a run. I opted to slog it out on my sister's wonky treadmill instead. I stuck to a walk though, because the belt was slipping. After my 30 minutes of torture, I took my sister to drop her car off, for a check up.
My planned hair appointment was early so I made my way carefully through the rivers, I mean roads, across town. The salon was in darkness due to loadshedding and my stylist was in a hostile mood. Issues like roads flooding, bridges crumbling and power off for hours at a time, are literally draining the joy from so many people. The cost of running a generator to power up a hairdryer is crippling to this small business but she has to keep her business going. Sigh. It's hard to see when I can't personally offer any solutions.
After my haircut, the power kicked in and I arranged an impromptu coffee with a friend who I haven't seen since pre lockdown. It was a lovely catch up and by the time I got to my car, the rain had stopped.
On my drive back I had another flash of going to check out a panelbeater who ubfortunately, was no longer on that premises. So I took a detour past an old running friend which was great, plus he pointed me in the direction of a different panelbeater. I then stopped by for a quick visit at my other sister.
A day filled with mostly impromptu events and now I'm sitting in the dark with the glow of my phone lighting the way for my fingers. Life in Jozi takes great skill.
