Saying goodbye to part time pets can be really sad. I feel so lucky to be able to 'borrow' people's animals and bond with them even for a limited time. But they do sense when I'm readying to leave and today Rusty had his sad face on. It's hard to say goodbye and they don't really understand what is going on, plus the owners were coming back and that exciting for the animals. Rusty goes to the office daily too, so no doubt he was probably a bit bored.
With my car all packed and lunch eaten I was just biding my time before I set off. A major storm appeared and I was concerned that I wouldn't get Rusty out for his afternoon walk. Chutney the cat, gathered close too, so I thought she was getting anxious about the thunder. We sat together for the duration and then the rain stopped. Rusty and I quickly nipped to the dog park but I was very concerned with the thunder and possible lightning so we didn't linger. I also took the dry gap to leave.
As I neared the western side of the city, a huge dark cloud was dumping it's load on my destination. Fortunately my timing was good and I got inside just as a hailstorm hit. My sister's animals were happy to see me, although Emily, the cat, bit my foot. Molly was ecstatic and insisted that I throw her ball.
After the storm cleared I took Molly for a quick walk around the block and then caught up with my sister when she got home.
It's been a great 3 weeks in the 'far east' of Johannesburg and once again I'm feeling so fortunate to be able to stay in people's homes and have a feel for how they live their lives.
