I woke up a bit later than my usual and listened to my nephew get ready for work. There was nothing planned for my day although my sister in law had offered me to join her and her niece and nephew at the movies, to which I declined. The weather was typically Scottish but it somehow didn't affect me. My brother then asked if I wanted to go to the People's Palace which is on the far side of the city. This offer- I accepted.
The People's Palace is a lovely building designed by Alexander B. McDonald, and was opened in 1898. It was built in the poorer side of Glasgow with sculptures of art, science, shipbuilding and progress to possibly inspire the people's imagination and declared it to be 'open to the people for ever and ever. I loved it. As my excellent tour guide - brother walked us up to the Necropolis which is also stunning, I realised that this Palace depicted my history.
My absent history. Everything in it was familiar even though I've grown up far away from it. It isn't a museum of wars and battles in the traditional sense but more a description of the social history of Glasgow specifically. I didn't know that I had missed it. I didn't know that I lacked it.
I had a small vacuum in my psyche seen to. I may need to return again and possibly again to let it all sink in and assimilate.
My World Tour is truly helping parts of me heal and restore. Wounds and scars hidden so deep yet somehow finding a natural restoration. I'm still amazed.
