Today I went to my old clinic partner for a body tune up. He uses a variety of techniques but primarily Bowen therapy which is small targeted movements to make body adjustments. My knee and elbow have been giving me a lot of pain and that's why I've not been running this past week or two. Sean was a professional rugby player who now runs 100km trail races for fun. I had a therapy room in his practice for 18 months and I loved the synergy between our different modalities.
As a very curious person, over the years, I've had hundreds of different therapies and I find that when I go for something I know a little about, I end up getting myself in the way. With Sean, I have no clue, so I just rattle on in conversation while he prods and measures and finds sore bits that I didn't know were sore. Did you know we humans store a LOT of stress in our jaw? Our skulls carry stuff too. Our bodies are amazing.
After a lovely catch up, I stopped by at an old 'regular' restaurant for some seafood. My sister is allergic so I find myself almost craving fish lately. The little Mozambik restaurant was quiet when I arrived but busied as the day aged. I sat quietly and listened to the loud island style music and reflected back over the past 5 years since I joined Sean's rooms. So much has happened but I wouldn't change any of it. (Even the dreaded plague time.)
It's useful to pause and let the thoughts pass over while in a different place. Life is fun.
