It was cool this morning when I took Molly for a short walk. It had rained a lot through the night so the earth was damp. Molly managed just a small block so I took her back and continued on my own. I managed to run the downhills and felt fairly comfortable albeit unfit. But after my fall last week, I'm pleased to report that all systems are go to go.
Pity, I can't say the same about my car. I met up with a friend for lunch and the rain returned while we ate. By the time I got back into my car I noticed there was a bit of water on the inside. I thought it might have been from a window that was ajar. As I approached the exit, I saw the interior lights hadn't gone off. The next thing my hooter started blowing and I couldn't stop it. The windscreen wipers still worked properly and the engine was running so I kept moving, with the hooter blowing continuously like a stuck hadeda (a large bird notorious in Johannesburg for it's squawky noise). Cars beside me at the red light looked puzzled, but I think they saw my stressed face. I honked the whole way to close to Nic's house, where I hoped he could take the battery off or something. About 500meters away the noise stopped, the lights switched off and it seemed okay, apart from the window heater light.
This happened to the Smartie before. Coincidentally on the night my ex father in law died. After heavy rains, in the middle of the night, the electronics malfunctioned loudly. That time the engine didn't start and the car wouldn't drive. It cost a lot to replace the electronic brain.
I got a lift back to my sister's and decided to take Molly for another quick walk, this time, I was the one needing it. My 20 year old car seems to be messing me around. I'm hoping she calms down and starts to behave. My sister's car has been booked in for repairs on Thursday. I'm holding thumbs and buying lottery tickets.
