Monday 20th June 2022
I woke early and checked my phone. My train had been canceled last night and I had the impulse to check the rest of the train times. Two trains only. One at 7.45am and 11.40. The 11am one was my original time but this three hour train trip was now going to take 9 hours, so I quickly legged it into the shower, ate my yoghurt, stripped my bed, and checked out in time to squeeze onto the earlier train.
It was a glorious morning with blue skies and sunshine that kept me happy all the way into Glasgow. The train trip saw me pass many recognisable spots from my walk on the West Highland Way back in 2007. Nostalgia continued when I got into Glasgow and I slowly took photos and looked up above the retail shops at the detail of the buildings. I need to take my time and really look deeply into individual buildings, but today it felt like looking at a box of chocolates and all of them jumped out at me at once.
My next train was quiet and fast with no stops before mine and I marveled at the public transport that is so efficiently run, even with strikes happening this week. I got off at my stop and continued my nostalgic trip past my late sister's old flat. I still expect to see her face at the window, even though my mind knows differently. I suppose it is because I've not been physically past the place enough. My late friend in Johannesburg's flat is almost neutralised now, but not this Paisley flat. But I heard her voice as I walked back to the main road, telling me to enjoy the sunshine and blue blue skies. And I did just that.
