Saturday 13th August 2022.
Today was a lovely day after waking up early to see the Sea Fret cloud the streets in its misty way. There's so many things unknown to this inlander but it's fun learning new things, even if I forget them all by tomorrow.
My sister and I took her daughter and grandchildren to the airport for their holiday trip and on the way back we detoured to see some landmarks and monuments. It was a scorcher of a day and so different to the cooler Hartlepool that we'd left behind.
We sat at a little Cafe for a quick lunch and melted in the sun in a small village. The local church door was open so of course we had to pop in. It still delights me seeing old graveyards with headstones from the 1700s.
The drive to the Angel of the North, a modern day monument, was quick and there was quite a lot of visitors at the beautiful 20m structure 'guarding' the people of the North. I did a skit there and strangely enough I didn't feel as self conscious as I did on the Newcastle bridge. If you want to watch the video, you can click here.
The next stop involved a lot of stairs. The climb was worth it though, to see Penshaw Hill and the Monument. 18 columns, 22meters high built like a Greek temple, it boasts a view of a huge area. Plus it was built in 1844, so my sister and I gaped at these massive columns and stones thinking about it's construction. No machines to erect anything, no trucks to drive up the steep hill, yet here it stands almost 200 years later.
Topping off a great day of adventure was some Rhubarb Crumble, homemade by my lovely, kind sister and it's my absolute favourite.
