I got in the pool again today. It takes me ages to get in, and I don't remember when that changed. As a kid, on the 1st of September, the public swimming pools would open after the winter and I'd be in that water. Now, conditions need to be perfect and it has to be hot before I get in. It was really warm early this morning so the Labrador, Harley, got very excited when he realised that I was getting ready to swim.
He loves the water and the ball and I was careful not to over exert his fragile hips. But it's tricky to tell a wet 30kg dog to relax and calm down. Just after my swim the cloud started to build up and there was a mid afternoon thunderstorm. Nic had popped round to swap cars so I could drive to my function tonight. He ended up leaving me his big V6 car so I cruised my way to the venue north of the city after the storm had moved on.
I have a friend who is a well respected international public speaker and author of 3 books. He's the brother of my good friend and son of my old boss and I'd never heard him do his thing before. I'd seen the event promoted on Facebook being hosted by Mark Sham from 'Suits and Sneakers' so jumped at the chance to hear Rich (Mulholland) speak. He was funny and informative and got his message about being relevant across. I've always admired Rich's success and often think that I'd love to do the public speaking circuit too. The difference is that he took the chance years ago and I stalled.
I've done a couple of paid talks and many free talks but I've just never pushed myself into the world properly. But the seed has been replanted and there's the beginning of a new bud. Rich's endearing quality is his mischievousness and I felt inspired and encouraged to reconsider all the years of my own communication training and voice play. So it will be interesting to see where this new (but old) train of thought will take me. Hmm!
One of my old quotes needs to be resurfaced - never say never!
P.S. I used to think 'never' when it came to bikinis. Then 'never' about putting a less than perfect picture of my body out in the world. But hey, there I am...
