New roads

Updated: Dec 30, 2022

Thursday 29th December 2022

The year is fair drawing in.

There was a huge downpour this morning and it got dark around 9am. I popped round to see my friend who lives in the same estate and we had a lovely catch up while the rain slowed to a halt.

I popped in at my housesitting house to see the lovely owners who are in transit on a long Cape holiday drive tomorrow.  Rusty recognised me this time and he's back in town too.

I set my maps to my hotel for the night and I deliberately avoided the motorway so I could travel on different roads.  I smiled at myself and how much that aspect has changed. I would never go a different route to the familiar before. Running in different suburbs has helped that fear of getting lost too, but I used to be terrified of getting lost in my car, that fear is gone. I came out at the Northside of the international airport and smiled at the jumbo jets parked up and how exciting it is. Yup, a stationary plane gets my motor racing lol!

My hotel is around the corner from a lovely little center with a stunning coffee shop that I had lunch at before checking in. It was comfortably busy and unfortunately I was too late for breakfast benedict so I had some yummy calamari instead.

My hotel is not quite as I expected.  The room is large and clean linen, but the bathroom needs some renovation. The public areas seem redone and the staff are friendly.  So it's not a total complaint, especially as I got a really fantastic rate including breakfast for just over £10. My frequent bookings have given me some great discounts on the different sites so I'm feeling really grateful for this.

Loadshedding kicked in which felt unusual as my housesitting has a completely independent power system, so I haven't felt it for a while.  I went for a walk around the street and saw the huge houses and admired the golf course. I decided to head back to the small shops and had delicious sushi at another stunning restaurant.  By the time I got back to the hotel there wasn't long left before the power returned.  The Freeview TV is different as I haven't really seen many local advertisements since I got back so it's playing in the background.

Another interesting day is almost over.
