My day was one of relief. Not only did I relax after an early run, I heard the brilliant news that my British passport was safely in my sister's hands!
Why did I let it go? Well the adventure of getting official documents in a country where I don't have any formal history, meant that I'd sent my passport away to prove my identity for my driver's license.
I had this unusual situation where I had 2 valid South African driver's licenses, because I had some time overlap when I arrived here. Unusual because of the rare efficiency of the SA licensing department, so I thought it was an ideal time to apply because the British license department keep the other country's license. I still need my newer SA license as I have a road trip to complete, lol.
The problem was that I did this all in a brain fog and with haste and the not so friendly Post Office lady told me a £1 first class stamp is what I needed. I didn't do the 'signature needed' or tracking option on my return addressed envelope. Unfortunately my surname caused a 'blip' and it became 'Rodney' on the 'not enough postage card'. However today, it was all sorted and my documents are on their 'tracked' way to me.
When discussing the whole scenario with my brother he asked me why I'd been stressing. I realised that I haven't trusted the Post Office in years, so the anxiety of it not coming through the Royal Mail post must've triggered all my undelivered parcel trauma. Aren't we fascinating, us human beans?
The relief was amplified by a late afternoon thunder roar, almost rare in Scotland. There were a few big drops but nothing damp enough to break the heatwave over the sizzling city. It's almost like Durban weather with the humidity and I'm still surprised that I need the fan on me at night.
The pretty sky reminded me that all is well.
