More dog reports

Monday 5th February 2024

It was nice waking up with my friend in the house this morning, although I got up early to let the dogs out. The bulldog woke up early but refused to go down to the lawn to do her business. I think she was after biltong instead of the chicken vienna that was on offer.

February must be the best month weather wise because we sat on the stoep drinking our brew and it was neither too hot nor cold in the early morning. The dogs eventually relaxed and settled after I coaxed the bulldog down. My friend's lift changed and I ended up taking her over to a previous housesit, where her friend was readying for their trip to the dam. One of the dogs charged the gate with his full on smile and I shouted 'hello chucky' before he was scolded back inside the house, as i drove away.

I wondered about the animals and their memory. Do they ever recollect and think about me and why I'm not there? I heard that Debbie's Molly was depressed last week after I left and I felt sad for her. I know they probably don't, but it is interesting to see how they recognise cars, and then wag their tails when they see me. The Labrador here seems to have a really good understanding and when I told him that the ball was inside the house he charges upstairs to get it. He sometimes comes back with two in his mouth.

I've enjoyed all these encounters but now it's just a matter of convincing the bulldog to attempt the stairs more often, and my biltong is finished, lol.
