Mooching in the hameland

Tuesday 22nd May 2023

Today was a mooch day. The weather stayed dull and I caught up with my brother.  I unpacked my bags and looked through his bookcase and saw some fascinating books on Scotland which I hope to get a chance to read.

One of my delights of living this nomadic way is to return to a sibling's home and find a small pile of my own belongings that I had forgotten I left behind. Today I found some leggings which still fit me ( yey!) And a nice thick sweatshirt that a dear friend had gifted me last year. So it was an unexpected day of cosy sitting in familiar clothes and drinking hot drinks and talking. Plus, I got to see the local squirrel feeding off the bird food! Bonus!

My younger sister arrives tomorrow for her 100mile jaunt through Scotland. This was the race that she didn’t manage to get to do last year because of lengthy passport delivery issues.  It's also the reason why I started hemisphere hopping.  Last year gave me the opportunity to spend a long summer here in the UK and experience my new way of life.

I'm going to spend some nights with her in a hotel near the (start and) finish and hopefully help calm her nerves down.  It is just a long walk along the West Highland Way, after all, except it's squeezed into a weekend of non stop running.  Did I perhaps mention that I got the 'brains' in this family dynamic? Lol.
